Common Questions
How long will it take for my child to work through each part?
Keep in mind that each child moves at their own pace. We expect that it takes most children to complete each part in 4–6 months. However, it’s normal for an older or more advanced child to move through a part more quickly, and for others to spend more time on a part. The learning happens through play, so this should be fun at any pace.
As a caregiver, do I need to know how to teach reading to help my child in this program?
Good news: No expertise required! We know many parents feel like they need to educate themselves before they can help their child, but that’s not the case here. With The Reading Skill Set, we walk you through what you need to know about each new skill, how to play each game, and you also get access to an online portal with additional expert resources.
What makes The Reading Skill Set effective in teaching my child to read?
The Reading Skill Set is research-backed and based on what really works. It makes phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension approachable and fun. Your child will move all the way from letter sounds to chapter books with an easy-to-follow program that’s low pressure for everyone.
The Reading Skill Set is based on The Science of Reading. The Science of Reading is a body of research that identifies the most effective methods of teaching children how to read. The Reading Skill Set combines this research—and Montessori principles—with motivating games and books for your child. Plus, it’s designed to be easy to follow for parents and children alike.
My child is learning to read in school. Is there still value in this program?
Absolutely. The Reading Skill Set can provide more practice for what your child learns in school or help them prepare for more advanced skills.
Is there a charitable donation associated with my purchase of The Reading Skill Set?
We have partnered with Reading Is Fundamental, the nation’s leading literacy nonprofit, which shares Lovevery's passion for instilling a life-long love of reading, especially through elements of play. For every purchase of The Reading Skill Set, Lovevery will donate 1 book to Reading Is Fundamental. Through this partnership, Lovevery will directly reach thousands of children in communities across the country, aiming to support early literacy development and foster a love of reading.
